A Researcher’s Checklist for Evaluating a Chemical Supplier

Choosing where to source research materials is a documentation decision as much as a purchasing one. Use this checklist to evaluate any research chemical supplier before you order.

1. Clear chemical identity

Does each product page state the chemical name and identity, not just a common name? You should know exactly what material you are purchasing.

2. Stated documentation availability

Is documentation availability — COA, SDS, lot information — identified on the product page rather than merely implied? Be cautious of blanket purity or testing claims that are not tied to a specific lot.

3. Lot traceability

Are materials identified by lot or batch where applicable, so documentation can be associated with the material?

4. Responsible-distribution policy

Does the supplier maintain a clear Research Use Only policy and decline to provide consumption, dosage, or medical information?

5. Fulfillment and support

Is fulfillment location clear, and is there a straightforward way to ask documentation questions?
